    About

Thank you for your interest in the Clinical Laboratory Science programs at Augusta University. Our programs are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.  The bachelor's and master's program are offered on-campus at our Augusta, GA campus and at our mobile laboratory in Lawrenceville, GA.

MHS-CLS Master of Health Science in Clinical Laboratory Science (Medical Technology)

The MHS-CLS graduate program requires 74 graduate semester credit hours for graduation. The student must have a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, microbiology, or a related science field. The curriculum is 5 semesters long and culminates in a research or capstone project. This program also offers courses in evidenced-based practice, clinical services delivery, epidemiology, and education principles. An MHS-CLS degree prepares the student for practice in research, management, and education as well as practice as a clinical laboratory scientist.

This is an entry-level degree. Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the national MLS certification examination offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).

All application material must be submitted to Admissions no later than June 15 to be considered for our web-based program. For main campus applicants, a complete application must be on file in Admissions by June 15 (a complete application consists of your application, all transcripts, three references, an official transcript evaluation completed by AU admissions, and a GRE score).

GRE Information (How long are GRE scores valid?)

For tests taken on or after July 1, 2016, scores are reportable for five years following your test date.  For example, scores for a test taken on July 3, 2018, are reportable through July 2, 2023.

For tests taken prior to July 1, 2016, scores are reportable for five years following the testing year in which you tested (July 1 - June 30).  For example, scores for a test taken on May 15, 2016 are reportable through June 30, 2021.

GRE scores earned prior to July 2013 are no longer reportable.  GRE scores earned in July 2013 are reportable until June 30, 2019.

(Please note that it takes approximately five business days to process requests to send GRE scores.  If you plan to send scores and the date at which your scores are no longer reportable is approaching, allow enough time for processing or your scores may not be sent.)

BS-CLS Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science (Medical Technology)

The BS-CLS undergraduate program requires 121 semester hours for graduation. Sixty hours of general college courses must be completed at an accredited college or university, with the final 61-hour curriculum completed in our clinical laboratory science program. This is an entry-level degree. Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the national MLS examination offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification.

For certified CLT (NCA) or MLT (ASCP) applicants, up to 8 semester hours of laboratory courses may be awarded as experiential credit. Each applicant will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

    Please note:

All undergraduate transfer students, regardless of major, with less than 60 hours of transfer credit by the start of the program will be required to take WELL 1000:  Wellness and two (2) activity courses.  If a transfer student believes she/he has taken comparable coursework elsewhere and transfer credit is not awarded, the applicant may petition the Chair of the Department of Kinesiology to review and award potential credit.

All undergraduate transfer students, regardless of major, with more than 60 hours of transfer credit are exempt from this requirement.
