About

The Master of Computer Science builds advanced computer skills to become more competitive in the workforce. Courses are organized into three categories: programming, systems, and theory. The degree may be earned strictly through coursework or a masters project.

Combine computer science skills with the knowledge of navigating intellectual property management and markets with this accelerated masters degree program.

The computer science program introduces concepts and techniques for designing and developing advanced software systems. Explore conceptual underpinnings of computer scienceâ€”its fundamental algorithms, programming languages, operating systems, and software engineering techniques. Choose from electives like data science, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, database systems, computer architecture, and computer networks.

Then delve into the world of intellectual property rights by gaining an understanding of intellectual property, integrating perspectives and skills from five key disciplines: business, computer science, design, engineering, and law. Be equipped in leveraging and managing intellectual property through marketing, research and development, portfolio management, legal protection, or business transactions.

Requirements

Entry Requirements

Students applying to the Accelerated Master's Program must have completed at least 60 credit hours of applicable undergraduate study and at least one full semester (12 credit hours) at the university. Students must be at least one full-time semester (12 credit hours) away from undergraduate degree completion in order to apply.

Applicants are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.

Consult individual departments for specific minimum GPA requirements.

English Program Requirements

International students who fit into any of the following categories will be considered to have met the requirement:

Residents of a country where English is the only official language and who is a native English speaker
Graduates of U.S. high schools
Completed the equivalent of Iowa State’s English 150 or 250 with a grade of B or better at an accredited U.S. 2 year or 4 year college or university.

CONDITIONAL ADMISSION

If you meet all admission requirements but do not meet our English proficiency requirements, Iowa State offers conditional admission to attend our Intensive English and Orientation Program (IEOP). If you would like to enroll in IEOP, on the application choose "I would like to enroll in Iowa State’s IEOP program before I begin the academic study.”
