    About

    Greater Understanding of Conflict

    The Department of Public and International Affairs offers a multi-disciplinary post-baccalaureate program in Conflict Management and Resolution (CMR) for professionals, practitioners and students who wish to gain a greater understanding of a variety of conflict in both domestic and international settings.

    Blended Course Model

    The program is based on a dual-format, blended-course model that includes intensive instructional blocks utilizing face-to-face instruction, video teleconferencing and mobile access followed by self-paced but guided distance education.

    There is one instructional block a semester spanning two to four weeks at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Participate in the certificate program while enrolled in a graduate degree program in another discipline at UNCW or any other accredited university.

    Learn how to manage and resolve conflicts

    Analyze and describe the nature of small and large-scale conflicts

    Understand negotiation and mediation and the link between effective negotiation skills and effective leadership

    Understand and analyze national and international security threats

    Assess and mitigate local and national emergencies

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    • Completed online application.
      • Fall Deadline: April 1
      • Spring Deadline: October 15
    • Non-refundable $80 application fee (check or money order in U.S. dollars and drawn on a U.S. bank, payable to UNCW).
    • Official high school (secondary school) transcript, translated into English (translation must be certified).
    • Translated transcripts from institutions attended beyond secondary school.
      • If the applicant wishes to receive academic credit, these transcripts (unless from a U.S. institution) must be evaluated by an accredited credential evaluation service. The applicant must choose a company that belongs to the National Association of Credential Evaluators (NACES).
    • TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English Test, or Pearson Test of English score unless:
      • English is applicant's native language.
      • Applicant has completed 2 college-level courses in English composition at a U.S. college or university with a grade of B or higher.
      • A student successfully completes Level 4 in UNCW's ESL program.
