    About

    Students in the Certificate in Earthquake and Wind Engineering Design program take a minimum of four courses in topics such as wind and earthquake engineering, reinforced concrete and steel composite structures, and seismic design of structures.

    Learn about distributed systems and how they are applied to real-world problems with the Certificate in Distributed and Cloud Computing. Examine how emerging cloud computing technologies can be used to implement some of the world's most popular services and applications.

    The certificate program is designed for professionals interested in gaining knowledge and skills in distributed and cloud computing, with courses offered online to accommodate the needs of students with full-time employment.

    Topics covered in the program include parallel/distributed computing, distributed real-time systems, data-intensive computing, and advanced computer architecture.

    Coursework from the certificate program may be applied toward a Master of Computer Science degree, provided a grade “B” or higher was earned in that particular course. Admission to a masters program is not guaranteed upon completion of the certificate program.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Admission to a graduate certificate program is limited to students who qualify as non-degree graduate students who hold a bachelor's degree with a GPA of 2.5/4.0 or higher.

    A GRE score is not required.

    English Program Requirements

    International students who fit into any of the following categories will be considered to have met the requirement:

    • Residents of a country where English is the only official language and who is a native English speaker
    • Graduates of U.S. high schools
    • Completed the equivalent of Iowa State’s English 150 or 250 with a grade of B or better at an accredited U.S. 2 year or 4 year college or university.

    CONDITIONAL ADMISSION

    If you meet all admission requirements but do not meet our English proficiency requirements, Iowa State offers conditional admission to attend our Intensive English and Orientation Program (IEOP). If you would like to enroll in IEOP, on the application choose "I would like to enroll in Iowa State’s IEOP program before I begin the academic study.”
