    Environmental Engineering with Specialization in Energy/Environment/Economics (E3) (M.ENG.)

    About

    Students interested in the Energy/Environment/Economics (E3) specialization are required to take at least 84 credit hours beyond the bachelors degree requirements, including required environmental engineering core courses for the doctorate and at least five E3 courses.

    The Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering with Specialization in Energy/Environment/Economics (E3) is a coursework-only degree program specifically designed to provide students with advanced professional preparation in specialized areas of environmental engineering practice with applications in energy, environment, and economics.

    This program provides a mixed-media foundation for students to gain experience in a combination of environmental engineering fields, including water and wastewater engineering, air quality engineering, and industrial and hazardous waste engineering and management. Students also have the option to select elective courses in energy technologies for a unique understanding of the associated environmental issues and economic forces that drive technology choices.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Students with a variety of academic backgrounds are eligible to apply for the program including those with undergraduate degrees in non-engineering disciplines. However, students from non-engineering disciplines may be required to take deficiency courses in their first year of study or prior to acceptance into the program.

    English Program Requirements

    International students who fit into any of the following categories will be considered to have met the requirement:

    • Residents of a country where English is the only official language and who is a native English speaker
    • Graduates of U.S. high schools
    • Completed the equivalent of Iowa State’s English 150 or 250 with a grade of B or better at an accredited U.S. 2 year or 4 year college or university.

    CONDITIONAL ADMISSION

    If you meet all admission requirements but do not meet our English proficiency requirements, Iowa State offers conditional admission to attend our Intensive English and Orientation Program (IEOP). If you would like to enroll in IEOP, on the application choose "I would like to enroll in Iowa State’s IEOP program before I begin the academic study.”
