    European Integration in East Central Europe MA

    About

    The MA in European Integration in East Central Europe is a practically oriented programme focusing on economic and political processes of integration and Europeanisation within the EU, especially in East Central Europe. Students acquire knowledge of European and international harmonisation trends, diffusion and economic processes as well as the integration prerequisites, processes and characteristics of politics in East Central Europe.

    The programme aims to enable students to

    • acquire expertise on the process of European political and economic integration, with a special focus on the particularities of Central and Eastern European countries;
    • use analytical methods to comprehend and systematically present the complex issues surrounding political and economic integration;
    • be able to independently assess and evaluate the process of European political, economic and legal integration and the specific effects in each case on different regions, demographics and interest groups within the EU;
    • develop practical concepts, analyses and services on the basis of this knowledge.
    The programme is intended to prepare students for professional fields and to equip them with the necessary specialist knowledge, skills and methods in such a way that they are able to conduct scholarly work, think for themselves and act responsibly. The curriculum includes the areas: Minority research Sorbian studies Celtic studies Sociology/anthropology Further minority languages Elective and key qualification modules are intended to provide supplementary and interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in other areas, and to qualify students to work independently with regard to strategies of problem solving, communication forms, presentation techniques, creative use of new media, intercultural competence etc. The bachelors programme can include an internship. There is an integrated period abroad.

    Entry Requirements

    • A first academic degree in political science, or in a social science or philological subject with a share of at least 60 credits in political science or 60 credits in a social science subject related to the masters programme; alternatively, proof that the applicant can earn such a degree by the beginning of the masters programme if he or she pursues the standard course of study;
    • knowledge of English at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
    • for applicants whose native language is not German: knowledge of German at C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
    • Since the masters programme has a limited number of places and is subject to a local restriction on admission, a selection is made from those applications received which meet the subject-specific admission requirements.

    How to Apply

    1. Checking your documents

    If you wish to participate in the German course to prepare for studying, you will need to have what is known as a“direct”higher education entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB),i.e.one that is valid for German universities.

    Please check in the databasewhether your school and university certificates entitle you to study in Germany.

    • Do you meet the requirements for the German course and does your previous education mean that you have a direct HZB? Then apply for the German course!
    • Do your documents contain an “indirect” HZB, i.e. one that is not valid for German universities? Please check the information about preparing for your studiesto find out how to apply to the Studienkolleg Sachsen.

    2. Confirmation document

    Refugees may only apply free of charge to the German course to prepare for studying if they have a document confirming that they have sought advice. This is called a Beratungsbestätigung. In order to apply, please emailus a scan of your residence title and indicate which degree programmeyou would like to study. Please note that we cannot accept any responsibility for personal documents you send to us by email. Alternatively, you can also send us a copy of your documents by post. We will then send you a personalised confirmation document, which you will need to upload when you apply.

    3. Apply through uni-assist

    • Then please send certified copies of your application documents (in the original language along with a German or English translation) by post directly to uni-assist:

    4. Admission and entrance test

    Once uni-assist has successfully checked your documents, you will receive a letter of admission forthe German course from mid-August 2021. This will be sent to you via the AlmaWeb study portal. When you have been admitted, you can expect to be invited to an entrance test in September. The course starts in October 2021.
