    Course information

    All foundation year students study the academic skills for higher education module, which will help you to develop the academic and study skills required for degree-level work. This academic skills for higher education module is shared with other Foundation degrees courses in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. You will also study modules focused on numeracy and data analysis, with topics including probability, statistics and data analysis.

    International and EU students whose first language is not English and who have an IELTS score of less than 5.5 will study an English language module.

    Successful completion of the foundation year guarantees automatic progression onto Year 1 of the degree you have chosen to study. Details of the course content of each degree can be found by selecting the relevant course in the A to Z list of courses.

    Pearson BTEC National Extended Diploma – MMP

    OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma - MMP

    Pearson BTEC National Diploma - DM

    Pass Access to HE Diploma in a relevant subject with a minimum of 74 UCAS Tariff points

    T Levels - We welcome applications from students undertaking T Level qualifications. Eligible applicants will be asked to achieve a minimum overall grade of Pass as a condition of offer.

    IB Diploma - Pass overall with a minimum overall score of 24 or minimum 72 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects.

    Other Level 3 qualifications equivalent to GCE A level are also considered.

    A maximum of three A level-equivalent qualifications will be accepted towards meeting the UCAS tariff requirement.

    AS levels, or qualifications equivalent to AS level, are not accepted. The Extended Project qualification (EPQ) may be accepted towards entry, in conjunction with two A level-equivalent qualifications.

    After successful completion of the foundation year in sport and exercise sciences, you can progress on to the relevant BSc (Hons) degree.

    Our degrees open up a range of career paths in elite sports, community development, teaching, health and rehabilitation. You might want to work as a sports scientist with professional athletes and clubs or take a role in a hospital or medical centre specialising in health, fitness and rehabilitation. Or maybe you’d like to work in personal training or manage coaching programmes or sporting initiatives. Some of our graduates choose to go into teaching after studying for a PGCE, while others opt to carry on their studies with a masters or PhD.
