The binational masters programme in German as a Foreign and Second Language in the Vietnamese-German Context is an integrated binational MA programme with a double degree. The programme has a stronger focus on research. The binational masters degree programme comprises compulsory content from the fields of didactics/methodology, (applied) linguistics including phonetics, and cultural and literary studies.
The programme equips students with the following skills:
- Systemic expertise that enables students, for example, to formulate subject and problem-related questions in the areas of cultural studies, didactics of foreign language teaching and linguistics/applied linguistics, including phonetics/phonology, and to apply the knowledge of research methods acquired in the modules to their own academic problems, and to conduct independent and appropriate work on their own research questions.
- Communicative expertise that enables them, in the context of examinations or colloquia, to present their own research projects in line with the current state of research and application. For this purpose, they know, analyse and evaluate the most important scientific research methods of the field.
- Instrumental expertise: they are able to apply their knowledge, understanding and problem-solving skills to new and unfamiliar situations that have a broader or multidisciplinary connection to their field of study. They acquire the ability to analyse and reflect in order to assess and apply the methods and theories of the field, also taking into account the latest developments. This includes knowledge of specialist terminology and a critical approach to research literature, but also the acquisition of increased cultural and linguistic competence.
- Widening knowledge: graduates of the masters programme have demonstrated knowledge and understanding that typically builds on the bachelors level and significantly deepens or broadens it. They are able to define and interpret the particularities, boundaries, terminologies and doctrines of their field of study.
- Deepening knowledge: their knowledge and understanding form the basis for the development and/or application of independent ideas. This can focus more on application or research. They have a broad, detailed and critical understanding of the latest knowledge in one or more special areas.
