    Overview

    Advance your career in the building industry by studying the Graduate Certificate in Construction Management at Victoria University.

    This postgraduate course is designed for individuals already working in the construction field and aims to enhance their professional skills within a 6-month period of full-time study.

    You will master the fundamental principles of project management, including scoping, scheduling, costing, and planning large-scale projects, while also taking into account environmental and social considerations.

    You will also have the opportunity to explore the practical application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in analysing extensive datasets, predicting project costs, and optimising resource allocation.

    We offer further opportunities to extend your management skills by continuing your postgraduate study.

    On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

    1. Contextualise advanced project management knowledge, including established theories and recent advancements, to ensure efficient, sustainable, and high-quality construction project completion;
    2. Implement construction project management principles and practices in new or complex environments, adapting to emerging challenges and integrating innovative solutions and contemporary digital technologies;
    3. Advocate for cultural awareness, environmental and social responsibility, integration of First Nations Peoples' perspectives and respect for diversity in all professional activities; and
    4. Exemplify professional integrity and leadership by collaborating effectively and ethically within multidisciplinary teams.

    This course is part of a suite of postgraduate courses in construction management.

    After completing your graduate certificate you may choose to extend your learning by transferring to our Graduate Diploma in Construction Management.

    Following the diploma, an additional year of study will result in the Master of Construction Management. A masters degree will put you at the top of your field with substantial professional experience and the opportunity to contribute advancements to your industry by conducting original, data-focused research.

    When assessing your application, we consider your education, work experience, current skills and personal attributes (where relevant).

    Applicants for this course will need to meet the entry criteria outlined below. If you don’t meet the entry criteria, you may be able to gain entry by first completing a different course. We call this a ‘pathway’.

    For PhD applicants, we offer a related ‘Integrated PhD’ which allows you to establish relevant skills before beginning your research.

    You may also be eligible for course ‘credits’, where you are granted a unit or units towards your qualification for equivalent previous study or work experience, so you can graduate sooner.

    Entry criteria

    To be considered for postgraduate study, you will need to have specific academic qualifications, as outlined below. We also consider non-academic research and work experience for our research candidates.

    Admission criteria

    Completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a similar discipline* OR Applicants without an undergraduate qualification may be admitted to the Graduate Certificate based on approved work experience. Upon completion of the Graduate Certificate, graduates will be eligible for admission to the Master of Construction Management course with credit granted for completed units. PLUS IELTS (or equivalent): Overall score of 6.5 (with no band less than 6.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) * Similar disciplines include civil engineering, architecture, building surveying, real estate and property, construction management and quantity surveying.
