    About

    Develop the problem-solving skills, experience and confidence to conduct research in multiple settings with a Graduate Certificate of Research Methods. You will cultivate hands-on research skills and learn to communicate your findings to a variety of audiences. This course can be used as a pathway for entry into a Higher Degree by Research course at JCU.

    Be equipped to successfully engage in research projects with the Graduate Certificate of Research Methods. In this six-month course, you will develop the critical thinking skills and understanding of methodology required to plan, implement and pitch a research project that aligns with your previous qualifications.

    This degree is a pathway for students who have previously completed at least one advanced research methods subject and are seeking additional research experience and qualifications to meet the entry requirements of a PhD or research Master’s degree at JCU.

    If you have not previously studied an advanced research methods subject, the Graduate Diploma of Research Methods can provide you with the additional understanding of methodology required for Higher Degree by Research courses.

    Learn how to develop a research proposal and conduct a literature review to the standard required for academic research. Formulate your own independent research project including the rationale, methodology and ethics application.

    As you learn how to conduct independent research, you’ll be supported by leading research advisors, who will provide personalised advice and guidance tailored to your research focus as well as your own developing research style. Working in collaboration with your advisor, you may also wish to explore opportunities to build your reputation and gain additional research credentials by publishing your findings.

    Graduates emerge from their studies prepared to successfully apply research skills in a professional context. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Research Methods, you may be eligible to apply to a Higher Degree by Research program at JCU.

    This course provides a foundation of Information Technology and Information System skills for entrants with limited IT experience. It also provides opportunities for experienced Information Technology and Systems professionals to enhance and apply their skills within emerging technology driven growth areas.

    You will learn how to apply Information Systems and Technologies in meeting current business needs in a real-world environment by integrating theoretical learnings with the practical application and experiences learnt through working on projects with real clients.

    You will graduate with relevant practical experiences to help you hit the ground running into a successful and exciting career in your chosen field.

    MITS also provides an optional opportunity for high achieving students to qualify to participate in a research project, offering valuable experience for your future career, or potentially being the first step on your path to a PhD.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    A 4-year AQF level 7 bachelor degree or an AQF level 8 qualification in a relevant discipline, with a 5.0 GPA and grade of 65% or better in one research methods subject; or equivalent.

    English language requirements

    Band 2

    If your native language is not English, you must meet the minimum English language requirements for this course.

    English Program Requirements

    International students must attain an IELTS Academic with an average level of 7.5 or more, across the four components of listening, speaking, reading and writing; no score below level 7.0 in any of these components; and a score of 8.0 or more in the components of speaking and listening. Internationally schooled applicants may also be required to meet this requirement.

    English competency requirements may also be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

    • Bachelor degree or master degree from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA, or
    • Undergraduate degree taught in English from a South African University.
