    About

    Overview

King's College London (KCL) and the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) and  are experts in identifying and modifying immunological processes relevant to the pathophysiology of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D).

Both academic institutions are leading islet transplantation centres and have been pioneering new interventional strategies for the treatment of both types of diabetes and the metabolic syndrome, including metabolic surgery. This expertise will be combined within the overarching IRTG to advance the joint, key research goals; namely, 'Recognition, regeneration and cell replacement in T1D' and the second, 'Systems biology in T2D”.

This 4-year PhD Programme offers the opportunity to complete a degree within these research areas in constant interaction between the UK-based and Germany-based partner labs. There are 12 research groups in each campus, London and Dresden, each comprising of 13 researchers. Students are given the additional option for a joint PhD award.
