    BSc. Industrial Engineering 2014/2015 / Program Overview

    ​Background to the program and subject area:

    Industrial engineering is a broad professional discipline concerned with designing, implementing and controlling efficient and effective production systems that produce both services and/or physical products. It is concerned with combining and integrating all resources to achieve the production objectives with the best way of resources utilization. Basic production resources include work force, machines and systems, materials and supplies, money and capitals, and management and information.

    To be recognized internationally for offering distinguished industrial engineering education, research, and outreach programs
     
    Mission statements of the program:
    To provide a respectable academic environment for research and teaching through its curriculum and partnership with industry. The department is committed to graduate industrial engineers prepared with the proficiency to account for social and technological changes as they mature in the field of industrial engineering, and who can excel in the field after graduation.
     
    Program Aims:
    Graduates of the Industrial engineering program are expected within a few years of graduation to:
    1.         Demonstrate their ability to integrate and apply knowledge, skills, professional ethics and leadership at national, regional and global levels.
    2.         Demonstrate their ability to work successfully both independently and in team functioning effectively as responsible professionals.
    3.         Establish themselves as distinguished professionals in industry, academia and other related fields.
    4.         Develop themselves in post-graduate studies in Industrial engineering or related fields
    5.         Participate in effective research programs to support Jordan's development plans.
    6.         Contribute positively to improving the engineering profession to meet the needs and requirements of practicing engineers through the organization of specialized seminars, technical conferences, continuing education programs, joint research programs and advisory services.

    It is expected that the program will provide opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, skills and other properties in the following fields:

    Graduates of the Industrial Engineering program are expected within a few years of graduation to:
     
    PLO1.  Apply knowledge he has gained during his studies and skills that are necessary in designing, managing and executing engineering projects and production systems efficiently and effectively so as to improve the productivity of enterprises and to contribute to the creation of technical, administrative and senior jobs.
    PLO2. Making a positive impact in areas related to industrial engineering and related professions to promote the development of societies and improve the quality of life of people.
     
    PLO3. Build continuous learning and teaching patterns for cognitive expansion, obtain more academic and/or professional degrees, communicate with various professional bodies and contribute effectively to the development and dissemination of industrial engineering professions.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Students with a high school diploma or its equivalent from outside Jordan can enroll in higher education institutions directly through websites of public and private universities or intermediate community colleges based on their averages. Universities implement the credit hours system, which allows students to choose courses according to their study plan.

    Students wishing to enroll in a master's program must hold a bachelor's degree. Furthermore, students who wish to enroll in doctoral programs must hold a master's degree.

    In addition, students wishing to enroll in postgraduate programs are required to provide a certificate confirming their English proficiency level in a TOEFL or IELTS exam. They could also demonstrate a certain proficiency level in French or German. Lastly, they could take an English language exam held by the higher education institution they apply in.

    In the event that the student fails to prove the required level of English, German or French, or fails the English equivalency exam, they may study a qualifying program in English at the university where they undertake additional six credit hours; he/she must score a minimum grade that varies according to their specialization.

    1. Industrial fields:
    The industrial fields that are managed by Industrial engineers are very large, mainly Therapeutics and Medical, Construction Industry, Mining Industry, Printing, Packaging Paper printing cartoon and Stationeries, Leather and Garments, Wooden and Furniture, Food، Supplies Agricultural and Livestock, Electrical Engineering and IT Industry, Chemical and Cosmetics Industry, Plastic and Rubber Industry.
     
    2. Quality management and quality control and assurance.
     
    3. Product design and materials selections.
     
    4. Continuous improvement and development in both manufacturing and services sectors.
     
    5. Supply chain and logistics engineering, and marketing.
     
    6. Follow up safety issues in the factories:
    The safety engineer is responsible for the safety of workers from various hazards of industry.
     
    7. Engineering Designs:
    Industrial engineering is concerned with the study of the engineering designs related to the various industries. In addition, to organize, arrange and follow up the process involved in the production.
     
    8. Scientific Research:
    Industrial engineers conduct many scientific types of research in the universities and factories, to find solutions to problems in different industries and other scientific research.
     
    9. Engineering Consulting:
    This work requires the Industrial engineer to have a high level of skills so that he is qualified to work in many fields engineering consultations.
