    About

WPI's pioneering, top-ranked Interactive Media & Game Development bachelor's degree will both stretch and focus your talents as you explore the technical and artistic aspects of game development. In our close-knit Interactive Media & Game Development bachelor's degree program, faculty and students alike share a passion for finding new ways of looking at traditional media in order to create new media. Beginning on your first days on campus, you'll be pushing boundaries and making things that matter to you, whether that's games, interactive fiction, art installations, collaborative performances, or virtual environments.
Our program provides an outstanding interdisciplinary education in the principles of interactive applications and computer-based game development. While each student chooses to focus on either the artistic or technical side of the field, all gain a broad understanding of both, developing a base of knowledge in computer science, mathematics, science, art, music, and English. By completing rigorous courses and projects as part of your game development bachelor's degree, you can explore a wide variety of topics in game development and interactive media, from game studies to digital painting, storytelling, audio arts, and social impact of games. BS/MS Option Interactive Media & Game Development students admitted to the BS/MS program are able to count certain courses toward both undergraduate and graduate degrees, completing the program in approximately five years.
Projects are at the heart of the university's curriculum and as an IMGD major, you'll complete a variety of projects in your courses, from designing short computer animations to creating new board games. Past team projects have addressed societal problems, such as helping the visually impaired by using audio cues or engaging elementary students in learning how to spell through an iPad game. Through a culminating project you'll apply your skills to solve a problem likely to be encountered at the professional level, work that generally results in substantive portfolio materials.

    How to Apply

    Step #1: Submit Application

First year candidates: Complete your application through the Common Application. Make sure you share who you are and what makes you a fit for WPI, and check over your answers. We encourage you to review our college application timeline checklist to put your best foot forward!

Transfer candidates: Complete the WPI Transfer Application. Make sure to also review important entrance and application requirements. Additional helpful information can also be found by reviewing frequently asked questions.

No matter which type of student you are, be sure to use an email address that you check frequently when filling out your application. Keep in mind that many high schools block external emails, so we recommend using your personal email address if you have one. This email will be the main method of contact that WPI uses to reach you throughout the application process.

    Step #2: Request Required Materials

Request your required high school transcripts and letters of recommendation while completing your Common Application. WPI is a test-blind institution, meaning SAT and ACT scores are not part of the WPI application. We do require:

    • Official transcripts sent from high school
      • Transfer applicants must also submit college/university transcripts
    • School counselor letter of recommendation
    • Teacher letter of recommendation
    • Early Decision applicants are required to submit the Early Decision Agreement

    Additional Requirements

Some types of applicants will have additional requirements. Please select an option below if you are a homeschool student, international student, or transfer student.

    Step #3: Review Application

Once you submit your application, watch your email for a receipt from WPI. Check your status online to confirm you are not missing any information needed to review your application.
