Interpreting and Translation Studies (Double Masters International)

About

This international double master's program enables you to complete the requirements of the Monash Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies (MITS), as well as a second degree with one of the partner universities.

France - Jean Moulin Lyon III (Specialising in business and legal translation, French)
Japan - Kobe City University of Foreign Studies (Specialising in interpreting and translation/Japanese)
Italy - Università di Bologna (Specialising in specialised translation or translation technology)

In each case, you will study one year at Monash University in Australia and one year at the partner university. On successful completion of the academic program at Monash and the academic program at the partner university, you will be eligible to graduate with the degrees from both institutions, awarded separately.

This double degree course is subject to maximum quotas for each partner university. If you are interested you must inquire directly to the course coordinator for the Monash Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies and if eligible, will be invited to apply.

The Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies is aimed at students with advanced bilingual proficiency. It seeks to develop your skills in translation and interpreting from/to English and another language, and your awareness of practical and theoretical approaches to translation/interpreting practice and studies.

In this course, you will learn theoretical principles of interpreting and translation, interpreting and translation terminology, and the history of interpreting and translation. You will also discover the range of linguistic, cultural, social and other factors involved in translation work, as well as being able to apply translation theory to both your practice and research.

Jean Moulin Lyon III

An Australian bachelor degree with a major in French (or equivalent) with at least credit (60%) average. The level of language competence should be equivalent to at least three years university study

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) and an Australian graduate certificate (or equivalent) equivalent to a major in French with at least credit (60%) average in both qualifications.

Kobe City University of Foreign Studies

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with a major in Japanese, linguistics or literature or equivalent, with at least credit (60%) average, including Japanese language proficiency equivalent to the Common European Framework Reference (CEFT) C1 level (Proficient User – effective operational proficiency).

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) and an Australian graduate certificate (or equivalent) equivalent to a major in Japanese, linguistics or literature or equivalent, with at least credit (60%) average, including Japanese language proficiency equivalent to the Common European Framework Reference (CEFT) C1 level (Proficient User – effective operational proficiency).

University of Bologna

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with a major in Italian, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, Indonesian or Russian (or equivalent) with at least credit (60%) average. The level of language competence should be the equivalent of at least three years university study.

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) and an Australian graduate certificate (or equivalent) equivalent to a major in Italian, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, Indonesian or Russian with at least credit (60%) average in both qualifications.
