    About

    This long-established three-year, flexible degree gives students access to UCD’s unrivalled range of 26 subjects. This course is ideal for students who want to create their own bespoke degree and combine a wide range of different subjects. Students applying to the programme choose two subjects.     You can add a third subject or choose from a wide range of elective modules at the start of Year 1 during registration. At the end of Year 1, you commit to your two Joint Honours subjects and study these subjects to BA degree level.

    Popular combinations include:

    • Film Studies and French,
    • Music and Irish,
    • Art History and History,
    • History and Greek & Roman Civilisation.

    Students on the BA Joint Honours can choose to spend a full year abroad in Year 3 at one of our partner institutions around the world, making it a 4-year degree. If you choose this option, you will graduate with a BA International.

    Entry Requirements

    • *Special Requirements - Language Options Recommendation:

    If choosing a language at Beginners Level, GCSE C or IB SL4 in Other Language is required. If at Advanced Level, a A Level C or IB HL5 in that language is required. French is only available at Advanced Level.

    • *Special Recommendations - Music:

    In order to study Music, we strongly recommend that you have A Level C / IB HL 5 or the equivalent of Grade 5 ABRSM Music Theory

    • *Special Recommendation - Maths:

    In order to study Mathematics, we strongly recommend that you also have at least A Level C / IB HL 5 or equivalent in Mathematics.

    English Program Requirements

    International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

    Taught Master's: A minimum overall score of 7.0 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version. The non-academic version is not accepted.

    Research Programmes: A minimum overall score of 6.5 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version. The non-academic version is not accepted.

    IELTS Indicator: A minimum overall score of 7.0 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band. This test will be accepted for 2022/23 and 2023/24 intake.

    Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

    Taught Master's: A minimum score of 100 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (iBT) with a score of at least 20 in each section.

    Research Programmes: A minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (iBT) with a score of at least 20 in each section.

    TOEFL iBT Home: A minimum score of 100 is required with a score of at least 20 in each section.

    Duolingo Test of English (DET)

    UCD has approved the use of the Duolingo Test of English (DET) for the 2024/25 intake.
    An overall score of 130 will be accepted with no section below 110.

    Please note that this does not apply to the CEMS MiM / MSc in International Management. In the case of the CEMS MiM the Duolingo English Test will not be accepted.
