    Law (Two-Year Accelerated)

    About

This two-year accelerated option is ideal for those seeking faster progression of a career in law, allowing you to complete your law degree in two years rather than the standard three.

You may have heard that legal education is changing. Our LLB course has been redesigned to meet those changes and will provide you with an excellent grounding as you take your first steps towards a legal career. The LLB course at the University of Northampton covers the seven foundations of legal knowledge required to meet the core academic requirements required by the Bar Standard Board for entry onto the Bar Training Course. For students who aspire to become solicitors, our LLB course has been designed to help you prepare for the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) as alongside the traditional foundations of legal knowledge there are additional optional modules covering SQE topics such as civil litigation, property law and practice, business law and criminal litigation.

A law degree is not just for those who wish to pursue a legal career; it equips you with a great many skills which are desired by the graduate jobs market. We know that not all our students will wish to enter the legal profession and we have designed our course programme to offer flexibility so that you can choose options which match your interests and will help you to achieve your goals.

    Updated 17/10/2022

This intensive LLB allows you to condense three years of study into two years, accelerating your career development.

The two year accelerated LLB (Hons) provides an alternative to the three year qualification, allowing you to graduate and fast track your career and move onto the next stage. The accelerated degree enables you to complete your degree in two years by extending the academic year into the normal vacation periods. You will need a strong academic ability and time management skills in order to be able to cope with the demands of this course.

The Law Team are passionate about social justice and making a difference within our communities. In 2019 we won the award for ‘University of Northampton Changemaker Team of the Year’. We received this award for our work in giving students as many opportunities as possible to make a difference in a range of communities such as volunteering, our Street Law Project, the Pro Bono Clinic, setting up charities and much more. We were commended for our ‘…commitment and passion to all their activities which provide law students with valuable exposure to real life experiences and situations and in no small way ensures that people without access to legal aid can gain justice’.

You will find strong support for your studies from a dedicated team of well qualified staff. A number of our Law team have published books and journal articles and some regularly deliver papers at conferences both at home and abroad.

The Law Team at the University of Northampton engage in a wide variety of activities beyond the classroom. For example, several staff members are external examiners or reviewers at other educational institutions. Some of our staff are on committees examining national or international issues relating to Law, such as the UN Committee on Firearms. Our teaching team includes members of the legal profession who are qualified solicitors and barristers. Other members hold Doctorate, Masters or professional qualifications and most are actively involved in legal research including environmental law and medical law underpinned by social justice.  Many also take part in voluntary activities outside of work and will support you in your voluntary roles.

Please note the modules shown here relate to the academic year 22/23. The modules relating to the academic year 23/24 will be available from June 2023.

Information about the modules on this course can be found on the award map: LLB Two Year Accelerated modules

Students studying Law with us will benefit from a varied modular scheme, designed to deliver the foundation subjects required by legal professional bodies alongside a wide variety of options. We focus on teaching Law in its political, social and economic context throughout the accelerated LLB course. You can also engage in a wide range of additional activities to gain valuable Law work experience, including mooting, client interviewing and court visits. Our Student Law Society and other local community project opportunities provide the chance to further prepare for your legal career.

At the University of Northampton, our Law LLB course includes additional optional modules alongside the traditional foundations of legal knowledge. These cover Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) topics, such as property law and practice, civil litigation, business law and criminal litigation, making it the ideal choice for students aspiring to take the SQE and qualify as solicitors. This course is also ideal for those who may not be considering a law career, as it offers flexibility to help you achieve your goals and equips you with desirable skills to stand out to employers.

Please note that elective modules are dependent on student numbers and staff availability. We cannot promise to run all elective modules each year. When module choices are made this will be reiterated to students.
