    Level 2 Animal Nursing Assistant

    About

Our Animal Nursing Assistant qualification gives you wider access to job opportunities in the veterinary sector. On graduating, you'll be qualified to work as an assistant to veterinary surgeons and nurses, usually within a small animal practice.

You'll be able to help care for patients, and help to run the operating theatre, as well as play an important and active role in meeting and communicating with clients.

You'll learn about animal anatomy and physiology, as well as about common illnesses and treatments. You'll also develop an understanding of safe handling, nursing skills and hygiene.

Four weeks of real-life work experience will give you the opportunity to put your learning into practice, and help to boost the kinds of skills and abilities employers will be looking for.

This course opens up opportunities for working in veterinary practices as a nursing assistant, veterinary care assistant or kennel assistant.

A range of topics will be covered during the course including:

    • anatomy and physiology
    • handling,
    • welfare and care of small animals
    • basic nursing skills
    • health, safety and hygiene
    • parasitology, nutrition
    • reception and communication skills
