    Bachelor of Management Information Systems / Program Overview

    Background to the program and subject area:
    In response to the requirements of the labour market and due to the urgent need for qualified and trained cadres in the field of management information systems (MIS) for various businesses, the undergraduate degree in management information systems was started in the academic year 2003/2004 and an independent department for MIS in the faculty of business was established in the academic year 2004/2005.
    The department provides an integrated study plan (132 credit hours) that includes courses in a variety of relevant subject-specific disciplines which are offered to MIS as well as to other faculty students according to their study plans. The department prepares distinguished graduates that keep abreast of developments in the field of technology and also skilled in maintaining the different types of information systems in organizations. The study plan was carefully designed to provide graduates with the necessary technical and managerial knowledge that is required to help them analyse, design, develop as well as apply and manage information systems. MIS graduates combine both the managerial and technical backgrounds necessary to enable them utilize the appropriate techniques in the various areas of business management for problem solving. The department has three modern computer labs, which are used in teaching programming languages, databases, business modelling and simulation, electronic communications and networks, applications of information technology tools, office automation systems, and the practical modules of other offered courses. Currently, the department has eleven members who hold PhD degrees, and two candidates who are university-sponsored to complete their doctoral degrees in management information systems from universities in the United States and the United Kingdom.
    To be nationally and regionally recognized as a leader for advancing the state-of-the-art MIS discipline at the intersection of human, technological and organizational systems, through educational innovations, research, and strategic collaborations, and to be renowned for the high quality of its graduates.
    To provide students with a sound Management Information Systems (MIS) education (knowledge, skills, and attitudes) that enables them to assume a leadership role in professional, ethical and environmental frames, and to advance their understanding of the application of Management Information Systems (MIS) principles for preparing them to enter the IT and business markets with the ability to apply their acquired skills in information technology and business management to the organizational and managerial needs of the business and commercial world.

    Bachelor of Management Information Systems / Program Intended Learning Outcomes

    At the successful completion of the Bachelor Program in Management Information Systems the student should be able to:
    1. Examine basic theories of business, management, and information systems by describing related facts and ideas.
    2. Describe research methodologies and tools and apply the steps involved in preparing information systems scientific research proposal.
    3. Discover opportunities for business and government organizations by identifying competitive advantages using information systems.
    4. Identify and assess ethical, legal, security, managerial, and professional issues related to the use of emerging technologies in business and government organizations.
    5. Analyze, design, and implement business data, information, systems, and knowledge.
    6. Develop and evaluate Information technology systems, solutions and strategies.
    7. Use information systems and databases to retrieve relevant data in order to generate knowledge and support decision making in organizations.
    8. Apply critical thinking, collaboration, teamwork, and communication skills to produce clearly written and concise information systems analyses and deliver clear,well organized, and persuasive oral presentations.
    9. Assume the assigned responsibilities of an information systems specialist and function within the community set of values and ethics.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Students with a high school diploma or its equivalent from outside Jordan can enroll in higher education institutions directly through websites of public and private universities or intermediate community colleges based on their averages. Universities implement the credit hours system, which allows students to choose courses according to their study plan.

    Students wishing to enroll in a master's program must hold a bachelor's degree. Furthermore, students who wish to enroll in doctoral programs must hold a master's degree.

    In addition, students wishing to enroll in postgraduate programs are required to provide a certificate confirming their English proficiency level in a TOEFL or IELTS exam. They could also demonstrate a certain proficiency level in French or German. Lastly, they could take an English language exam held by the higher education institution they apply in.

    In the event that the student fails to prove the required level of English, German or French, or fails the English equivalency exam, they may study a qualifying program in English at the university where they undertake additional six credit hours; he/she must score a minimum grade that varies according to their specialization.
