Master of Architecture

If you’re interested in studying to become a professional architect, you should look at the Master of Architecture (Professional).

Delve deeper into the history and theory of architecture with the research and thesis-based Master of Architecture (MArch). This qualification will be of interest to you if you are already working in the profession and want to use research to deepen your understanding of a particular aspect of architecture. Or maybe you want to build on the knowledge gained at undergraduate level.

You’ll further develop your critical thinking and discussion skills with a detailed and significant piece of research. Increase your understanding of how architectural history and theory are applied to design, so you can express your own ideas and conclusions within a robust theoretical framework.

Entry requirements

To be accepted into this programme you'll need:

A Bachelor of Architecture degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Designed Environments in Architecture from this university, or an equivalent qualification. See ‘Important information’ below.

To be accepted by the Head of School as being capable of proceeding with the proposed course of study

IELTS (Academic): minimum overall score of 6.5 with no sub-score below 6.0

TOEFL: minimum score of 90 for the internet-based test with a minimum of 20 in writing

Pearson Test of English: minimum score of 58 (with a ‘Communicative’ score of not less than 50)

Victoria University of Wellington English for Academic Purpose (EAP) programme: minimum final scores of 4,4,5,5

Cambridge English Qualifications: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 176 or higher, with each skill score no less than 169

New Zealand Certificates in English Language (NZCEL): Level 5 (Academic)

NZAPA: English New Zealand Accredited Pathway Assessment Level 3 (with no skill lower than Level 2)
