Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree / Doctor of Medicine (MD) Degree with Baylor College of Medicine

MBA/MD Dual Degree Program

Upon completing the MBA/MD dual degree program, students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding and application of the foundational frameworks and tools of all business disciplines, including accounting, finance, marketing, organizational behavior, and strategic management. 
2. Develop, evaluate, and implement complex business strategies and operational solutions holistically, integrating management principles across the functional areas. 
3. Function effectively in a team setting both as a leader and contributor. 

MBA/MD Dual Degree Program

As part of coordinated dual degree program, students have opportunity to earn both (Rice) MBA degree and (Baylor College of Medicine) MD degree in 5 years. program is structured as follows:

• Years 5, 2, and 3—Medical training at Baylor College of Medicine.
• Year 4—First-year MBA core courses at Rice including 2 custom core courses and 2 elective courses. 
• Summer—Students are encouraged to do an internship. To ensure that internship is a combination of business/management and health care, approval is required from both schools. internship does not count toward credit for either degree. 
• Year 5—Second-year MBA elective courses in fall including MGMT 678, Business of Health Care, and medical training at Baylor College of Medicine in spring semester. 

Students are expected to follow health care major concentration as blueprint for their MBA studies, to extent possible and in consultation with Program Director of Health Care Initiative at Jones Graduate School of Business. To obtain major concentration, students take MGMT 678, Business of Health Care, in fall of their second year and complete 52 credit hours from a suite of health care courses offered throughout year.

Students are eligible to receive their MBA degree from Rice i.) after they have completed 45 credit hours of approved business coursework, and ii.) after they have completed MD degree requirements specified by Baylor College of Medicine. 

The English Language Proficiency Requirement may be waived for an international student who received a degree from an institution in which English is the official language of communication. Contact the admitting program for more information.

The following language proficiency tests are accepted by Rice graduate programs and will be used to assess English language proficiency. Please note the below scores are the minimum requirement, though some program requirements will be higher.

• The TOEFL IBT Home. A minimum score of 90 is required
• IELTS Indicator. A minimum score of 7 is required.
• Duolingo. A minimum score of 115 is required.
