Energy and resources are dominant in the Australian economy, and management of these resources presents formidable legal challenges for governments and private enterprise at global, national and local levels.

The Master of Energy and Resources Law (MEnergy&ResourcesLaw) is part of the world-renowned Melbourne Law Masters program. It’s available for both law and non-law graduates and the flexible structure makes it ideal for working professionals looking to immerse themselves in the study of energy and resources law.

Admission criteria

To be considered for entry into this course, you must have completed:

A degree in law (LLB, JD or equivalent) leading to admission to practice with a University of Melbourne equivalent score of at least 70, OR
A degree in law (LLB, JD or equivalent) leading to admission to practice, or equivalent and two years of documented relevant professional experience, OR
An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and two years of documented relevant professional experience, OR
An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline; and successful completion of four subjects in a cognate graduate diploma and one year of documented relevant professional experience.

Disciplines directly related to this course include energy, resources, and law.

Professional experience relevant to this course may include legal roles or roles in government.

Career

As a Master of Energy and Resources Law student, you’ll develop an advanced understanding of the complex body of knowledge in the field of energy and resources relations law, including:

an in-depth knowledge of the specialist area of energy and resources law and associated disciplinary areas
detailed knowledge of the complex law and regulation in the field
the capacity to identify new laws and/or apply existing law in the rapidly evolving legal context for energy and resources
advanced understanding of developments in international energy and resources law

You’ll also develop skills in critical analysis and the ability to interpret and transmit your ideas to specialist and non-specialist audiences, including clients.
