If you are a registered nurse looking to move into more challenging nursing roles, you can upskill by choosing one of five specialty areas to study. These include advanced practice, leadership and management, research, teaching and learning and custodial health.
Gaining a specialised qualification related to your clinical area may be recognised as professional development. It may also meet the requirements for you to receive a continuing education allowance under your relevant industrial award.
what you will study
You can choose from one of five areas of specialisation:
- Advanced Practice –study areas include advanced physical assessment, diagnostics, symptoms management and pharmacotherapeutics.
- Leadership and Management –study areas include human behaviours, organisational design, and employment relations.
- Research –study areas include qualitative and quantitative research methods, biostatistics and epidemiology.
- Teaching and Learning –study areas include pedagogical innovation with technologies, leading technological integration, introduction to higher education, quality teaching in higher education, and teaching and learning in the clinical context.
- Custodial Health –study areas include health and substance misuse, mental health acute care, and cultural context of custody.
