About

Make an impact on young people's lives. The Master of Teaching (Primary) program qualifies graduates with non-education bachelor degrees to teach in primary schools with students in Prep to Year 6.

In this program you will:

Learn to inspire young students and apply existing subject knowledge in the classroom
Study core courses that prepare you to teach english, maths, science, technology, arts, history, geography, health and physical education (PE)
Learn how to motivate and encourage young students through curriculum design, teaching strategies and behaviour management
Enhance your knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development seminars and employment forums
Complete Supervised Professional Experience in three blocks, totalling 60 days of practice teaching, with the opportunity to gain experience in rural and remote areas throughout Queensland

Requirements

Entry Requirements

You must have completed a non-education bachelor's degree (AQF Level 7) or equivalent, with a minimum GPA of 4.0 from a recognised tertiary institution which includes the equivalent of at least one full-time year of study in areas relevant to one or more learning areas of the primary school curriculum.

Applicants from a non-English speaking background must attain an IELTS score of at least 7.5 with a minimum of 8.0 in speaking and listening and 7.0 in all other subtests. Refer to English language requirements

English language requirements

You will also need to meet the English language requirements for this program. If you do not meet the minimum requirements, you may be able to enrol in our English Language Programs to reach the required level for most of UniSC’s programs (exceptions apply to non-standard English requirement programs).

Post admission requirements

Students complete 60 days of supervised professional experience. Obtain a Blue Card before starting supervised professional experience.

As required by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act (2000), pre-service teachers must undergo a criminal history check and be issued with a Suitability Card (Blue Card) by the Commission to allow them to undertake field experience in a school or centre in which children under 18 years of age are present. It is highly recommended that students be proactive in applying for a card as soon as they are accepted into the program. It is now a requirement of all Queensland sites and most Australian sites that pre-service teachers have obtained the Blue Card prior to starting professional learning.

Students must complete and pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) prior to graduating.

Travel and Transport to Supervised Professional Experience sites. Students may be required to attend a placement at a site which is not easily accessible by public transport. Students will need to make their own arrangements to allow for their participation in the allocated SPE placement.

Student must adhere to the Student Code of Conduct and meet Inherent Academic Requirements.
