    Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor of Science)

    About

A special feature at the start of the programme is the practice-oriented Bachelors project. Working as part of a group, students tackle contemporary research and practical issues within the departments institutes. Students can choose from a total of 13 projects offered across the three areas of specialisation: Development and Construction”, Energy and Process Engineering” and Production Technology”. The project enables students to gain practical experience and develop task-oriented approaches. During the first few semesters, the curriculum usually involves teaching students mathematics, measurement science, computer science, mechanics, thermodynamics and materials science. Students are also given the opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice in laboratory exercises and practical training. Tutorials and practicals help students to apply and consolidate the knowledge acquired. Later on in the degree programme, students start to specialise by selecting two specialisation modules. Industrial visits, practical training, the Studium Generale and key transferable skills complete the programme. Students write a Bachelors thesis in the final semester, concluding the programme.

Pragmatic and realistic ways of thinking, as well as the analytic skills needed to calculate and design, are necessary to produce finished products in an economical and environmentally compatible way. Technical, mathematical and scientific skills are required for working with computer systems and for the wide range of research, development and testing activities involved.
