Mechanical Engineering with a Year Abroad MEng

If you would like to spend the third year of your degree studying mechanical engineering in another country, either in English or in a foreign language, then our Mechanical Engineering with a Year Abroad MEng will be an excellent route for you.

You will be the subject expert on a major project during your Mechanical Engineering MEng degree where you will apply your in-depth technical knowledge. This will provide you with vital employability skills that will give you a competitive edge in applications forms, interviews and assessment tests for graduate jobs.

This course has been designed to be relevant to the needs of modern industry and to produce graduates who have the personal and intellectual qualities to be successful in their chosen careers. By the end of the course, you will be equipped to play leading roles in a professional capacity in both industry and academia, and thus able to deal with issues at the forefront of our discipline.

We will consider students who have taken GCE A Level examinations or the International Baccalaureate (IB) for entrance to onto our undergraduate programmes. Holders of the Thanawiyah are not normally eligible for direct entry onto our undergraduate courses without the completion of a suitable foundation programme, such as one of our foundation pathways.

English Language

You will need to demonstrate a certain level of English language, either through an English test such as IELTS, TOEFL or PTE, or we may be able to accept your previous or alternative qualifications as evidence. A level Mathematics (Further Mathematics and Physics are not required but are advantageous).

If you have an alternative qualification to A-level mathematics the Admissions Tutor may wish to assess your mathematical ability during the application process. This will be via a Mathematics Aptitude test.

General Studies not accepted.

International Baccalaureate Diploma

6,6,6 at Higher Level to include Mathematics with a minimum of 32 points overall.

BTEC

• BTEC Extended Diploma will be considered for MEng programmes providing there is sufficient Mathematics content and applicant satisfactorily completes our Mathematics aptitude test.
  Grades: MEng D*D*D* + Distinction in Maths & Further Maths, and the applicant must successfully complete our mathematics aptitude test at required level.
• BTEC Diploma considered in combination with A Level.
  Grades: MEng D*D* plus A-level Maths grade A, and the applicant must successfully complete our mathematics aptitude test at required level.
• BTEC Subsidiary Diploma considered in combination with 2 A Levels.
  Grades: MEng D*plus A,A including Mathematics, and the applicant must successfully complete our mathematics aptitude test at required level.

Students who just miss the grade requirements for MEng study will be automatically considered for a place on the BEng programme.

Foundation Year

Are you a UK student and would like to study for one of our degrees but lack the entry qualifications we require? If you are not studying A Level Mathematics you can consider a Foundation Year programme which can lead to entry onto one of our courses.

International students applying for this programme will need an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office before the University can issue you with a Certificate of Acceptance of Studies (CAS). We recommend that you apply for your ATAS certificate as soon as you receive an offer from us.
