The geospatial information science area of emphasis, part of Warnell's program in Natural Resource Management and sustainability, offers a foundation in natural resource management coupled with extensive training in Geographic Information Systems. Increasingly, employers hiring graduates from natural resource programs require primary training in geospatial analysis. These employers range from forest products companies who use the technology to identify wood supply zones to public agencies that use the technology to delineate habitat for threatened or endangered species.
Warnell's GIS program gives you a flexible curriculum by combining skills in biological and ecological sciences, natural resource management and social sciences needed to address complex natural resource challenges. This program of study supports integrating coursework from other majors as well as interdisciplinary certificates.
Study Abroad Options: The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources hosts study away programs in Australia, Fiji, Hawaii, New Zealand, the Smoky Mountains, and the United Kingdom.
