Program details
Expected duration: 2 years
Tuition and fees: Two years tuition, then continuing fees in subsequent years (refer to Graduate tuition and fees)
Students in the master's program follow an individual Study Plan which includes:
- 12 credit hours of required courses
- A minimum of 9 credit hours of elective courses
- A master's thesis or practicum
Thesis
The thesis component is an independent written research document resulting from an interdisciplinary research project, which addresses a practical problem or issue in natural resources and environmental management.
Practicum
Students will work closely with a faculty member to identify a partner at the beginning of their programme. They will work with the faculty member and project partner to develop a project plan proposal, secure financial support, produce a deliverable, and a record of the practicum in a Practicum Document that will contain the practicum plan, deliverable and a critical reflection.
Faculty advisor
All students have a specific faculty advisor throughout their academic program. Students usually select an advisor prior to applying for the program, but may be assigned an advisor during the application process. Faculty advisors act as program consultants for the student's individual area of study and facilitate development of the Study Plan.
Study Plan
The Study Plan is prepared and developed by each student in consultation with a faculty advisor. The objectives of the plan are:
- To define a research direction; and
- To organize the student's course work in the framework for integration and synthesis of interdisciplinary knowledge.
