Why study Nursing (Blended Learning) Child BSc(Hons)
You’ll learn in an innovative environment, supported by experienced practitioners and tutors, and the course – regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) – is designed for those who wish to fit in their studies around other life commitments.
This course provides a flexible way to study, using mainly digital technologies; it also incorporates practical, hands-on experience. You’ll attend the campus in Huddersfield for a maximum total of 20 days per year of the course. This provides the opportunity for you to put your skills into practice in a safe and controlled environment, attend occupational health sessions and mandatory training.
Clinical placements also provide opportunities for you to put what you’ve learned into practice in a variety of acute settings close to your home, such as children's wards, accident and emergency departments, and neonatal intensive care. Opportunities are available to work with specialist nurses in a range of community settings, including health centres, children's hospices, as well as mainstream and specialist schools.
You’ll have an opportunity to borrow a clinical skills kit at the start of your course, as well, to familiarise yourself with some fundamental equipment you may use in practice.
You’ll have the opportunity to hear first-hand experiences and viewpoints from service users and carers, who are part of the Public Partnership Group and be taught by experienced practitioners and tutors. You’ll learn online through seminars and group work, and have the chance to be part of an online community, where you can showcase your work, establish relationships with tutors, and collaborate with peers. You’ll also learn through independent, self-directed study, developing confidence in your self-discipline and organisational skills.
In 2024, the University’s new Daphne Steele Building will open on the site of the National Health Innovation campus. This will allow our child nursing students to enhance their learning by benefiting from specialist clinical teaching facilities and world-leading research facilities.
After successful completion of this degree, you can apply to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and work as a Registered Nurse for Children.
Students on this course may be eligible to receive a non-repayable grant of at least £5,000 each year – find out more on the NHS Learning Support Fund website.
