PhD in Medical Science (MRC Epidemiology Unit)

    About

The MRC Epidemiology Unit is a research department in the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of Cambridge and investigates the causes and prevention of obesity and diabetes.

Our PhD students have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research under the supervision of senior scientists supported by postdoctoral researchers and a large team of fieldworkers, data managers, statisticians, study coordinators, technical and administrative staff.

PhD students are members of the wider Clinical School MRC Doctoral Training Programme (DTP), which offers a broad range of training opportunities and support. Students are also members of one of the University’s Colleges, which offers pastoral support and a vibrant learning community.

    Continuing

Applicants continuing to the PhD from an appropriate University of Cambridge MPhil course should pass that course.

    Open Days

Applicants for this course should have achieved a UK Good II.i Honours Degree. If your degree is not from the UK, please check International Qualifications to find the equivalent in your country. The MRC Epidemiology Unit offers a three-year PhD programme for those students who already have a master's degree or equivalent training in an appropriate scientific discipline. Opportunities also exist for four-year positions for those wishing to undertake the MPhil in Population Health Sciences course in the first year of their studentship. The academic requirement for entry is that students undertaking the MPhil in Population Health Sciences in Cambridge should pass the course at their first attempt (i.e. not require a viva) . Note that applicants who apply to take the MPhil course as a precursor to the PhD must pass the MPhil and make a separate application to continue to the PhD (i.e. continuation is not automatic).
