PhD/MD-PhD Programme - Experimental Medicine

About

The PhD programme in Experimental Medicine provides a project-oriented postgraduate education in basic and applied research in medicine. The goal of the programme is to enable candidates to carry out independent scientific work and to equip them with advanced professional qualifications for jobs in research and all research-related areas. The main component of the PhD programme is an individual research project to be submitted in the form of a doctoral thesis. In addition, specialised courses and seminars taught in small groups equip young researchers with useful knowledge and skills. Technical and practical modules are offered in the research areas of Infection Medicine and Microbiology, Immunology, Oncology, Neurosciences, Cardiology/Vascular Medicine, Imaging Technology and Biomedical Engineering, amongst others. A large catalogue of electives, which comprises advanced seminars and courses in soft skills and professional skills, is available. A special feature of our programme is the possibility to receive the double academic degree MD/PhD.

Entry Requirements

Graduation from medical school (German "Staatsexamen Humanmedizin" or "Staatsexamen Zahnmedizin" or equivalent degree) or a Master of Science or a German diploma degree in the life sciences and related disciplines (e.g. biomedical sciences, biology, biochemistry, physics, chemistry, psychology, computer sciences, engineering) Acceptance by an authorised academic supervisor at the medical faculty, excellent academic grades in previous studies and some previous research experience are prerequisites.
