Physics is the study of the fundamental properties of energy and matter. When you study physics at Dalhousie, you’ll gain insight into our complex and ever-changing world. You’ll discover phenomena you can use to develop the technologies and tools of tomorrow and that there are similarities between things that look very different on the surface.
Physics and Atmospheric Science courses will inform and challenge you. In lectures, you’ll be introduced to key topics, while labs provide you with opportunities to ask questions and explore related subjects. In Atmospheric Science courses, you’ll learn more about the environmental issues affecting our climate.
In your first year of study, you'll take foundation-building science courses in physics, math and chemistry. In upper years, you’ll take more specialized courses in topics such as modern physics, electricity and magnetism, energy and the environment and more. You’ll also be encouraged to think analytically and use your imagination, while also learning the skills you need to solve real-world problems.
Co-op education opportunities are available to students in the physics and atmospheric science program who wish to put learning into practice and gain career-related experience while completing their degree.

As a graduate of the Physics program, you’ll be highly sought by employers needing an intelligent workforce able to adapt to our rapidly changing world. Graduates have secured positions in leading high-tech industries, high-profile government research institutions and universities. You may find yourself in any of the following careers upon graduation (further study may be required):
A degree in physics and atmospheric science will prepare you for further studies in various sciences such as physics, engineering or meteorology. After you complete a bachelor's degree, you could go on to study Optometry (OD), a Master of Science (MSc), a Master of Engineering, and eventually a PhD.

CAD 70Dalhousie offers a wide range of programs to build an educational experience that is tailored to you. You can apply for up to three programs. You'll only be assessed for your second and third choices if you're not admitted to your first choice.
If you’re applying to the Faculty of Agriculture, please note all programs are located at the Agricultural campus in Truro, N.S.
Please note: Some undergraduate programs require previous university experience (Dental Hygiene, Environmental Design Studies, Meteorology, Pharmacy and Social Work).
Once you’ve selected your program:
Three years of secondary schooling is generally required to review for admission. For an initial assessment, first-semester or mid-year results (predicted where applicable) can be reviewed if your final year is still in progress.
To start the application process, create an admission login ID and pin on Dal Online. Select your application type (see below) and your desired admission term.

To complete your application to undergraduate studies, you'll need to pay the $70 CAD application fee.
Please be advised that fee payments must be made online. Dalhousie is unable to receive in-person payments until further notice.
Each applicant must submit an official transcript, however your program may require supplemental forms and documentation.
Official transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution. Canadian and US applicants can submit transcripts to [email protected] and international applicants can submit transcripts to [email protected].
If you are mailing your transcripts, please note that there may be a delay in processing your application. As our staff are working remotely, we are only able to access the mail once per week.

Dalhousie offers a variety of entrance awards. To apply, you must submit your entrance award application before March 1 and:
