The Department of Physics & Atmospheric Science (and its faculty members) have earned an outstanding, international reputation for its accomplishments in both pure and applied research. Students have opportunities to immerse themselves in the current and developing cutting-edge, world-class research activities, using a wide range of state-of-the-art equipment housed in our materials growth and characterization facilities, high-power computer clusters, atmospheric observational facilities, and medical imaging facilities.
Physics & Atmospheric Science encourages and fosters a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment with other departments and Faculties within the University, including (but not limited to): Chemistry, Oceanography, Engineering, and Medicine, as well as collaborations with external-to-the-University leaders in industry. The friendly, knowledgeable faculty members and staff help promote a stimulating, inclusive, and social atmosphere in which students can enjoy learning, exploring ideas, and expanding horizons. Scholarships and other forms of financial support are available to graduate students.
