About

In the mandatory modules of this degree program, students are first taught skills in the field of model-based system development in a theoretical, product-neutral manner. This is further supported with practice-oriented courses in communication and project management. In this way, the mandatory section ensures a consistent base of the qualification profile of all graduates, who will be able to face the challenges of todays development processes. The courses Applied Design and Product Development I and II are key to this degree program. In these courses, students independently apply cross-disciplinary skills from model-based product development and project management. For this purpose, the participants work on industry-driven project assignments in small groups of up to 20. This lets them gain first-hand practical experience in applying the necessary skills in all stages of modern development processes, ranging from the definition of the requirements and concept development to prototyping and validating the results. In addition to this mandatory section, the Master's program also offers two specializations:

Entry Requirements

1. An Initial Qualifying University Degree

The most important requirement for applying to Master's studies is an initial qualifying university degree. Individuals who have never completed university studies before cannot begin with Master's studies. Furthermore, most of the Master courses of study at RWTH Aachen are consecutive. This means that the Bachelor degree provides the subject background and preparation for the Master. Thus, it is not possible to have completed a Bachelor in philosophy but then pursue a Master is mechanical engineering.

2. Complete Application On Time

An important prerequisite for a successful application is that all application documents are completed and submitted by the deadline. You can refer to the webpages about the application process to find out what documents you need to apply.

English Program Requirements

Proof of Language Skills

RWTH Aachen currently offers Master courses of study in German and English. You can find overview of langugae proficiency tests that are accepted by RWTH Aachen at our web page about Language Requirements.

Exempt from having to provide evidence for English language skills are all individuals who have completed an educational qualification in the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, New Zealand, or Australia.

Participation in an English-language academic program in one of the countries listed above does not substitute the language test. Certificates and test results from other tests are not accepted either.

Career

After successfully completing the Master's program, it is possible for students to apply for doctoral studies at one of the departments in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. A profession in any technical field and almost any branch and sector of industry both in Germany and abroad is possible. Futhermore, graduates are able to successfully work in integrative and interdisciplinary topic areas.
