Cultural Studies encompasses the classical areas of the theatre, music, film, literature, as well as the interaction between our and other cultures, the history of transcultural relations, globalisation, and the role media and communication play in modern processes of change. Cultural Studies is an interdisciplinary endeavor. At German universities it is taught with different specialisations. The two area programmes which comprise Cultural Studies at Bremen University are a unique combination in Germany. The programmes encompass social and cultural anthropology and communication and media studies. The content of these two programmes constitute an original approach of cultural studies to the subject matter of the respective fields.
