    About

    Social Studies and Science is studied as a teaching subject in the Special Needs Education degree programme. From the third semester onwards, students initially study theoretical basics and the teaching of Social Studies and Science as well as methodological and practical teaching/learning courses. In cooperation with teaching methodologies from the natural and social sciences, theory and practice are linked in the courses in various ways. Examples include the Children as Explorers Day” and project days at primary School Semester Modul Themenbereich 1 Themenbereich 2 Themenbereich 3 3 Basic module A: Foundations of Social Studies and Science, including Teaching Methodology A1: Introduction to Social Studies and Science, including Teaching Methodology A.2 Social Studies and Science, focusing on the Social Sciences a) Introduction b) Advanced 4 Basic module A: Foundations of Social Studies and Science, including Teaching Methodology Basic module B: Reaction to the World Around Us B1: Reflection on My Reaction to the World Around Us B2: Anticipating and Differentiating between Childrens Ways of Reacting to the World Around Us A.3 Social Studies and Science, focusing on the Natural Sciences a) Introduction b) Advanced 5 Basic module C: Perspective-Linking Thematic Areas of Social Studies and Science C1: Introduction to Perspective-Linking Thematic Areas of Social Studies and Science C2: Reflection on an Exemplary Perspective-Linking Thematic Area 6 Basic module D: Teaching and Learning in Social Studies and Science D1: Fundamental Principles of Social Studies and Science D2: Learning Requirement and Learning Support in Social Studies and Science

    Students in this degree programme are expected to demonstrate an interest in special needs education action contexts, the area and perspectives of social studies and science. They should also be keen to work for and with people with disabilities and in problematic life situations. Key competencies such as cooperative and communicative skills, the willingness to work in a team and to reflect on their own work experience play a central role.

    Admission Requirements

    The Bachelor’s degree programme in special needs education generally is admission restricted.

    As second subject some subjects in the Bachelor’s degree programme in special needs education are restricted (Applied Linguistics (non-school-based), German Studies (school subject: German), History, Arts, Music, Social Studies and Science ("Sachkunde") and Sports (school subject: Physical Education) and others are admission-free (Protestant Theology (school subject: Protestant Religious Education), Catholic Theology (school subject: Catholic Religious Education) and Mathematics).

    Application Deadlines

    First-year students (Application for the first semester is only possible for the winter semester)
    • Applicants from Germany and other EU countries: June 1st July 15th of the year
    • Applicants from outside the European Union: April 15th May 31st of the year (application via uni-assist)
    Students resuming their studies and transfer students (application in a higher semester)
    • Everyone: June 1st July 15th of the year for the winter semester
    • Everyone: December 1st January 15th of the year for the summer semester

    How to Apply

    You can use our online application portal to enrol any time between 1 June and 30 September. To be able to do this, you will need a qualification for admission to higher education. At the end of the online application, you will automatically be forwarded to a cover letter (the so-called application for enrollment). Sign this application for enrollment (handwritten or digital) and put it together with the required documents into one PDF document, which you can then upload using the upload link provided. The required documents include your qualification for admission to higher education (e.g. Abitur) and any other supporting documents such as practical training certificates or evidence of language proficiency. We also need proof of your health insurance and evidence that you have paid the semester fee. At the end of the online application, all required documents are listed and must be uploaded as a scan of the original documents by September 30th, 11:59 p.m. Please do not forget to upload your photo for the LeibnizCard . You can find information on this in the application for enrollment at the end of the online application. In September, you will receive your enrolment documents, an invitation to the welcome event for new students and information about any preparatory courses that may be offered. Please note that some degree programmes offer preparatory courses well before term starts.
