    Learn from the latest evidence and best practice guidelines to provide high quality care for sick paediatric patients and their families.

    The Specialist Certificate in Paediatric Critical Care Nursing is a 25 credit point, part-time, coursework program conducted over two terms. It consists of two core 12.5 credit point online subjects, NURS90076 Applied Pathophysiology and NURS90085 Foundations in Paediatric Critical Care.

    You'll apply scientific knowledge to the assessment and evaluation and across the continuum of care to understand common presentations and interventions in critically ill paediatric patients, identify appropriate treatment and nursing management strategies, and upskill to become a beginning level specialist nurse.

    Further study

    On completion of the course, you may be eligible to receive advanced standing toward the Graduate Certificate in Paediatric Intensive Care Nursing.

    Entry Requirements

    Admission criteria

    To be considered for entry into this course, you must have:

    • Completed a Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent qualification, i.e. Master of Nursing Science entry to practice), AND
    • Documented evidence of clinical experience in an area of nursing practice within the preceding five years from the time of application, AND
    • Current unrestricted registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with AHPRA or equivalent registration with an international health practitioner regulation agency.

    English language requirements

    All applicants to the University of Melbourne must satisfy the English language requirements. This may be achieved in a number of ways, including recognised previous study taught and assessed entirely in English or an approved English language test. If you are from a non-English speaking background, the required standard of English for this degree is one of the following English proficiency test scores:
