About

The new Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MS-SLP) program is a two-year, 60-credit, program designed to provide diverse academic and clinical experiences in communication sciences and disorders to ensure that graduates have the competencies to excel as independent clinicians and as members of collaborative clinical teams. It is offered within the Jefferson College of Rehabilitation Sciences, which also includes graduate programs in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Athletic Training.

The MS-SLP graduate program offers the following:

An academic and clinical program with an interprofessional focus in the context rehabilitation sciences
The large Jefferson network of hospital and medical sites, early intervention settings, schools and community programs that serve clients with a variety of communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan.
An on-campus Clinical Skills & Simulation Center that uses simulation experiences to enhance clinical skills
Opportunities for advanced study that will prepare students for focused clinical experiences within the medical/rehabilitation setting and which help prepare graduates for specialized clinical fellowships in voice and swallowing

Curriculum

This is a full-time, 60-credit, cohort program that prepares students for the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) as well as for state licensure and school certification in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. It includes 3 part-time and 1 full-time practicum experiences in a variety of clinical settings. Additional advanced elective coursework will be available, along with related clinical experiences, for students wishing to specialize in various areas of medical speech-language pathology.

The Master of Science (MS SLP) education program in speech-language pathology {residential} at Thomas Jefferson University is a Candidate for Accreditation by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD, 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301 296-5700. Candidacy is a “pre-accreditation” status with the CAA, awarded to developing or emerging programs for a maximum period of 5 years.

Entry Requirements

International applicants may be required to submit results from an English Language Proficiency Exam. Additional information about the English Language Proficiency requirement can be found on the Admissions Information page for your program of interest.

Students who have taken coursework outside of the United States should submit a course-by-course academic credential evaluation from a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member credentialing organization. Applicants who do not have a NACES evaluation are required to submit official transcripts, along with an official English translation, to Jefferson for review. Thomas Jefferson University reserves the right to outsource student academic credentials to our NACES member partner for evaluation.

Supporting Materials

The Admissions Committee emphasizes a holistic review process that examines the entirety of an applicant's academic aptitude, motivation, problem-solving skills, leadership potential and life experiences. Admission decisions are individualized to the specific attributes of the applicant.
