In the first level, you’ll develop a breadth of knowledge and skills, including sport management, sport marketing and communication, sport leadership, sociological aspects of sport, and sport coaching.
In the second and third levels of the degree, you’ll have the opportunity to specialise; choosing from a range of sport business and leadership concepts, including digital sport marketing, leadership and team dynamics, strategic sport management, global sport business, events design, and leading elite sport cultures.
Updated 30/06/2022
Explore a variety of business and leadership disciplines from elite to grass roots including digital media, applied marketing, PR, brands, management, coaching and leadership.
Sport Business & Leadership BSc (Hons) allows you to study key disciplines within sport business and leadership and includes an opportunity to undertake a work placement at a local sport organisation. A strong emphasis is placed on the application of theory to real-world issues affecting the commercial sector including, developing successful business strategy, managing sport governance issues, responding to market forces, building and leading successful teams, and organising and delivering sport events.
The course provides a mixture of classroom-based sessions (to introduce theories and concepts) and practical activities that enable you to develop your own coaching and business leadership approach. We have also designed our assessments around real-life organisational problems and practices, e.g., having to create a sport marketing campaign, and designing and organising a successful sport event.
Alongside the degree, you are also encouraged to take an active engagement in practical work experience with internships at the local professional football, rugby and cricket clubs, and volunteering in community sports clubs. We also offer the opportunity of attaining coaching qualifications whilst studying, which often run on campus. This varies year to year, but in the past has included Level 1 NGB courses, first aid and disability inclusion training and we work closely with local sport partners to offer reduced rates on courses wherever possible.
