    Surface Imaging Non-Degree Graduate Coursework

    About

    Surface Imaging + Research offers students the opportunity to develop imagery for various physical forms using a variety of printing technologies. Students will explore direct surface imaging on diverse porous and non-porous substrates. Fabrication printing, including material subtraction and deposition printing technologies (laser and 3D printing), has also become a significant part of the discipline.

    Surface Imaging Advanced Practice coursework offers a series of short courses related to the specialty digital printing technologies for surface imaging. Each course consists of 1.5 credits, designed to complete in one weekend. All courses are conducted at the Center for Excellence in Surface Imaging, the state-of-the-art advanced specialty digital printing labs at Jefferson

    Course Structure

    All courses are combinations of experiential and theoretical learning to be offered in accelerated 3-day stints during weekends (with option to be offered in the evening hours on the weekdays).

    • MSSI 501: Digital Textile Printing (wet and dry processes)
    • MSSI 502: Hard Surface Digital Printing (2.5 D printing)
    • MSSI 503: Digital Printing for Flexible Substrates (wallpaper, cling, print/cut)
    • MSSI 504: Digital Color Management (theory and hands-on)
    • MSSI 505: Printing Technology (Online lecture)
    • MSSI 506: Surface Imaging Design
    • MSSI 510: Specialist Printing - Special effects for Screen Printing on Textile
    • MSSI 550: Surface Imaging Pattern Design (semester long)

    Students who have taken coursework outside of the United States should submit a course-by-course academic credential evaluation from a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member credentialing organization. Applicants who do not have a NACES evaluation are required to submit official transcripts, along with an official English translation, to Jefferson for review. Thomas Jefferson University reserves the right to outsource student academic credentials to our NACES member partner for evaluation.

    The Admissions Committee emphasizes a holistic review process that examines the entirety of an applicant's academic aptitude, motivation, problem-solving skills, leadership potential and life experiences. Admission decisions are individualized to the specific attributes of the applicant.
    • Transcripts: Submit official undergraduate and graduate transcripts from all regionally accredited institutions you have attended and/or from which you earned credit.
