Prepare for a career as a system administrator with a professional certificate in Systems Administration. Core coursework covers a wide range in topics in network, database, and web administration.

The Certificate in System Administration program is designed for students seeking knowledge that will prepare them for a career as a system administrator. The certificate requires completion of four graduate courses in topics such as enterprise server system administration, distributed workstation system administration, open source server system administration, and open source software. Students may apply credits earned in the certificate program toward a graduate degree.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, but the degree does not need to be in an information technology or a computer-related field. Prerequisites may be required for some courses in the certificate program, but the prerequisites will not be applied toward the certificate.

English Program Requirements

International students who fit into any of the following categories will be considered to have met the requirement:

Residents of a country where English is the only official language and who is a native English speaker
Graduates of U.S. high schools
Completed the equivalent of Iowa State’s English 150 or 250 with a grade of B or better at an accredited U.S. 2 year or 4 year college or university.

CONDITIONAL ADMISSION

If you meet all admission requirements but do not meet our English proficiency requirements, Iowa State offers conditional admission to attend our Intensive English and Orientation Program (IEOP). If you would like to enroll in IEOP, on the application choose "I would like to enroll in Iowa State’s IEOP program before I begin the academic study.”
