    About

    Learn to structure and deliver information for the best user experience across desktop and mobile technologies. Students take courses on enhanced technical communication and develop specialized concepts, skills, and tools for designing, implementing, and managing web applications and digital media.

    The program consists of 12 credit hours of coursework (four courses).

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    You must have a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5/4.0 and must be admitted as a graduate certificate student. Certificate students who later apply to one of the departments M.S. programs or the Ph.D. program must meet the admission guidelines for that program. All coursework taken toward a certificate in technical communication or in instructional design and passed with a grade of B or better may also be applied to the M.S. in technical communication and information design or the M.S. in information architecture (if youre admitted to one of those programs), as long as those courses were not applied to another degree.

    English Program Requirements

    International students who fit into any of the following categories will be considered to have met the requirement:

    • Residents of a country where English is the only official language and who is a native English speaker
    • Graduates of U.S. high schools
    • Completed the equivalent of Iowa State’s English 150 or 250 with a grade of B or better at an accredited U.S. 2 year or 4 year college or university.

    CONDITIONAL ADMISSION

    If you meet all admission requirements but do not meet our English proficiency requirements, Iowa State offers conditional admission to attend our Intensive English and Orientation Program (IEOP). If you would like to enroll in IEOP, on the application choose "I would like to enroll in Iowa State’s IEOP program before I begin the academic study.”
