    About

    If you'd like to work alongside farmers, growers, scientists and other businesses focused on agriculture/horticulture, this subject will equip you with the skills for a dynamic global business career. In an export-based economy such as New Zealand, successful agribusiness relies on the ability to understand competitive global markets, sustainable farm systems and environmental impacts, technological innovations, free trade agreements, international marketing, and managing complex supply chains.

    Agribusiness is available as a first major for the Bachelor of Business and the Bachelor of Management Studies (Honours). Agribusiness may also be included as a second major or minor in other undergraduate degrees, subject to the approval of the Division in which the student is enrolled.

    To complete Agribusiness as a single major for the BBus or BMS(Hons), students must gain 135 points from papers listed for Agribusiness, including 105 points above 100 level, and 60 points above 200 level. Students must complete AGBUS101, ECONS101, AGBUS201, AGBUS202, ECONS200, AGBUS304, AGBUS306, AGBUS308 and 15 points from ECONS304, SCMGT303, STMGT303 and STMGT305. Alternatively, WSAFE396 or WSAFE399 can count towards the major replacing the ninth major paper.

    To complete Agribusiness as part of a double major for the BBus, BMS(Hons) or other undergraduate degree, students must gain 120 points from papers listed for Agribusiness, including 90 points above 100 level, and 45 points above 200 level. Students must complete AGBUS101, ECONS101, AGBUS201, AGBUS202, ECONS200, AGBUS304, AGBUS306 and AGBUS308.

    To complete a minor in Agribusiness students must complete 60 points from the papers listed for Agribusiness, including at least 30 points above 100 level. Students must complete AGBUS101.

    The most common entry into the GradDip is to have a bachelors degree from the University of Waikato, or a qualification considered by the Academic Board to be equivalent.

      If you have previously undertaken tertiary or non-formal education, you may apply for Credit (for formal studies) or Recognition of Prior Learning (for non-formal studies). This recognises your previous studies and can reduce the number of papers required to complete your University of Waikato qualification.
