    About

    CQUniversity's Bachelor of Digital Media will prepare you for a professional career in the digital media industry by providing practical skills and relevant theory that can be applied in a variety of fields associated with design, technology and media.

    The course's flexible structure allows you to focus on your individual strengths and interests by pursuing minors in graphic design, interactive media, screen production, animation, or a combination of these areas.

    Working within multimedia computer laboratories and production studios, you will learn how to create digital media works using industry-standard software development tools and techniques. You will learn how to think critically, solve problems, communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

    During your final year of study you will have the opportunity to engage with clients on real-world projects, ensuring that you are work-ready upon graduation.

    The course can be studied on-campus or by online study and incorporates two optional interim or exit awards, the Diploma of Digital Media and the Associate Degree of Digital Media.

    Real-world opportunities

    Throughout your studies, you will work within multimedia computer laboratories and production studios and learn how to create digital media works using industry-standard software tools and techniques.

    In the third year of the Bachelor of Digital Media, you will have the opportunity to work on authentic projects and apply your skills and knowledge. You will gain practical and relevant industry experience through two real-world projects. Through these projects, you will be exposed to real scenarios and clients and have opportunities to apply your discipline knowledge to meet your client’s needs and propose effective solutions. You will have the flexibility to tailor one project to your interests and can choose to either develop a digital media product, a portfolio of digital media work, complete a digital media-related work placement of a minimum of 120 hours, or undertake academic research project with a digital media focus. The skills, knowledge, and experience you gain through this professional practice experience enhance your work readiness and the career opportunities you explore when you graduate.

    Career focussed

    This course offers you a choice of four-unit minors in several distinct skill areas of digital media.

    Graphic Design

    The graphic design minor covers advanced units in visual design, print design, photography and social media management using standard software such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. It builds on core foundation units in visual design and illustration.

    Interactive Media

    Interactive Media covers advanced units in application development, game design and mobile application development, using technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MYSQL and industry-standard software such as Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe XD and Unity.

    Screen Production

    A minor in screen production has advanced units in screenwriting, production, editing and postproduction for both narrative films and documentaries, using industry-standard software such as Adobe Premiere and Adobe Audition. It builds on core foundation units in digital video and audio production.

    Animation

    Animation is a minor with advanced units in motion graphics,3D computer graphics, 3D character design and 3D animation using industry-standard software such as Autodesk Maya and Adobe After Effects. It builds on core foundation units in 2D animation.

    English (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent

    English Language Proficiency Requirements

    If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or United States of America, you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University.

    Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion of:

    • A secondary qualification (Year 11 and 12, or equivalent); or
    • An Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) diploma level qualification; or
    • Bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 2 years full time with a minimum overall GPA 4.0

    completed within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland or United States of America.

    If you do not satisfy any of the above, you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores:

    • An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subset; or
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - requires 550 or better overall and minimum TWE score of 4.5 (Paper Based Test), or 75 or better overall and no score less than 17 (Internet Based Test); or
    • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - requires an overall score of 54 with no sub-score less than 46; or
    • An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components.

    English test results remain valid for no more than two years between final examination date the the date of commencement of study and must appear on a single result certificate.

    Each student will be assessed individually.

    English Program Requirements

    If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers. This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.
