Completing the Bachelor of Oral Health at CQUniversity enables you to apply to the Dental Board of Australia for registration as an Oral Health Therapist.

CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Oral Health equips you with the skills and knowledge to perform preventive and operative dentistry for patients across the lifespan. You will be able to educate and promote oral health to community groups and individuals. You will graduate with a wide scope of practice, including adult scope, and gain experience working with, about and from other health practitioners. On graduation, you will be eligible to apply to the Dental Board of Australia for registration as an Oral Health Therapist. Registered graduates of this course are highly sought after in Queensland and in other states in both the public and private sectors.
Real-world opportunities
Throughout your studies, you will undertake hands-on experience treating real patients. Your practical experience involves pre-clinical and clinical practice sessions or work placements that are either internal, in CQUniversity’s oral health simulation labs or the Health Clinic in Rockhampton, or at various external clinical placement sites.You will begin your practical experience early in your course, allowing you to progressively gain experience and apply the discipline knowledge you gain throughout your studies. In your final year, you will complete two clinical placements that take place four days per week, in each term.
Your placements may be held in a variety of settings such as general dental practices, specialist dental practices, school dental clinics, oral health clinics on campus and residential care facilities.

English (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent; one of Biology, Chemistry or Physics (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent
English Language Proficiency Requirements
If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or United States of America, you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University.
Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion with the last 5 years of:
- A secondary qualification (Year 11 and 12, or equivalent), or
- Bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 2 years fulltime with a minimum overall GPA 4.0
completed within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland, or United States of America, which will meet the English proficiency.
If you do not satisfy any of the above, you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores:
- An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 7.0 with a minimum 7.0 in each subset; or
- An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components.
English test results remain valid for no more than two years between final examination date and the date of commencement of study, and must appear on a single result certificate.

English Program Requirements
If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers. This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.
