    About

    • Help improve people’s quality of life by becoming a qualified physiotherapist with a degree from UniSQ. Graduate career-ready after completing a variety of industry placements with the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours). 
    • Learn about human anatomy, systems and movement from experienced academics, clinicians and industry professionals to develop your critical thinking and practical skills. 
    • During the five placement opportunities, you will gain experience in acute care, rehabilitation and community settings.
    • Learn how to provide much-needed support to regional, rural, First Nations and low-resource communities.
    • Physiotherapy courses explore musculoskeletal health, anatomy and neuroanatomy, cardiorespiratory health, digital health services, neurological physiotherapy, supporting those with acute and chronic health conditions and paediatric physiotherapy. There may also be opportunities to learn about animal physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, chronic pain management and Pilates.
    • This degree aligns with requirements set by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia and UniSQ is accredited with the Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC). Graduates may also be eligible for membership with the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA).  
    • There is opportunity to complete your honours in one of two ways: 
      • The practice pathway focuses on industry partnerships and addresses everyday practice topics.
      • The research pathway allows you to create an individual research project (this pathway is dependent on GPA).

    Further study

    If you’re interested in furthering your knowledge, eligible graduates can go on to study a Master of Research or a PhD.  

    Professional accreditation

    As a graduate of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) you will be recognised by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia (PBA) and will be eligible to apply for registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) to practice physiotherapy within Australia. The Bachelor of Physiotherapy program is accredited by the Australian Physiotherapy Council.

    Entry Requirements

    Subject pre-requisites

    • English (Units 3 & 4, C)
    • one of Biology, Mathematical Methods, Physical Education, Chemistry, Physics, or Psychology (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent. 

    Please note: Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee admission. Places within the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) are limited. Quota size is determined by the availability of placements. Where the quota is filled, no further places will be offered.

    Qualification Grade

    English language requirements

    You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires an overall score of  IELTS 7.0, or equivalent, and a minimum score of 7 in each of the four skills areas of listening, reading, speaking and writing. Additional requirements regarding prior education taught and assessed solely in English and prior employment - refer to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)'s Registration Standard for further information. 

    If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

    Inherent requirements

    There are inherent requirements that must be met in order to successfully complete this degree. Inherent requirements are fundamental skills, capabilities and knowledge that students must be able to demonstrate in order to achieve the essential learning outcomes of the degree, while maintaining the academic integrity of the degree. Please read and understand the inherent requirements specific to the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) before applying.

    If you think you may experience any problems meeting inherent requirements, you can talk to a Student Equity Officer about reasonable adjustments that may be put in place to assist you. Any reasonable adjustments made must not fundamentally change the nature of the inherent requirement.

    Additional requirements for placements

    Please note that students will need to provide the following documents to enable them to go on clinical placements: 

    • Blue card or Working with Children Check
    • Yellow card (if working with people with disabilities)
    • Australian Federal Police Check Certificate

    Students will also need to supply evidence of the following immunisations:

    • Hepatitis B 
    • Measles, Mumps and Rubella 
    • Varicella 
    • Pertussis 
    • Influenza
    • COVID-19 vaccinations as directed by health services

    Finally, you will be asked to complete the below:

    • Tuberculosis Risk Assessment
    • Mask fit testing for face masks worn in clinical settings  

    Recognition of prior learning or work experience

    If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

    English Program Requirements

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows students to gain credit (advanced standing) towards their course in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training. Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

    Career

    • As a physiotherapist, you will have the skills to empower individuals impacted by pain, injury, illness, or disability to optimise movement and better participate in the activities they love.  
    • Career opportunities may include working as a physiotherapist in aged care, home-care, community health centres, private practice, public or private hospitals, paediatrics, or the educational sector. You could also work in NDIS, gender health, the sports sector, health promotion, mental health, occupational rehabilitation, research, academia, management, or in government.
