About
The B.S. in biology degree program provides a solid foundation for a pursuit in the health professions including medicine, osteopathic medicine, and dental schools.
However, health professions schools are competitive. The Master of Science in Biology for the Health Professions is a post-baccalaureate, pre-medical program that is designed to strengthen you as an applicant for professional health schools, including medicine, dentistry, optometry, and pharmacy.

Requirements
Entry Requirements
Students applying to the Accelerated Master's Program must have completed at least 60 credit hours of applicable undergraduate study and at least one full semester, or 12 credit hours, at the university. Students must be at least one full-time semester, or 12 credit hours, away from undergraduate degree completion in order to apply.
Applicants are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
GRE scores are not required.
English Program Requirements
International students who fit into any of the following categories will be considered to have met the requirement:
- Residents of a country where English is the only official language and who is a native English speaker
- Graduates of U.S. high schools
- Completed the equivalent of Iowa State’s English 150 or 250 with a grade of B or better at an accredited U.S. 2 year or 4 year college or university.
CONDITIONAL ADMISSION
If you meet all admission requirements but do not meet our English proficiency requirements, Iowa State offers conditional admission to attend our Intensive English and Orientation Program (IEOP). If you would like to enroll in IEOP, on the application choose "I would like to enroll in Iowa State’s IEOP program before I begin the academic study.”
Career
This five-year Accelerated Master's Program is designed as preparation for medical, dental, pharmaceutical, and optometry school. However, graduates can find employment in health-related fields.
