The Food Engineering programme, founded in 1990, is the first and currently the single programme in Istanbul. The department has offered MSc programme since 1992 and PhD degree programme since 1995. The graduate programmes have been completely restructured in fall 2001. Currently, there are 69 MSc and 25 PhD students enrolled to the programmes.
The objectives of the MSc programme are to provide an education for students to develop their knowledge in the area of food engineering and, also, to demonstrate abilities for carrying out a scientific research through collection and evaluation of data and then discussion of the results in the light of current literature.
The objectives of the PhD programme are to provide an education for students to expand the depth and breadth of their food engineering background and to demonstrate abilities to do research independently through justification of scientific events and determination of further steps to reach new synthesis.
Research projects aim at generating nationally and internationally recognized knowledge and technology to produce healthy, safe, economic food products with improved sensory properties and shelf-life stability.
Students will have deep knowledge in the area of food science and technology in addition to developing abilities for collection, evaluation and interpretation of data. Also, applied research projects aiming at finding solutions to the problems of food industry are carried out by following up current developments nationally and internationally. Graduates of programme would be more competitive and ready by developing skills to meet the requirements and expectations of the food industry.
