    Graduate Certificate in Professional Molecular Sciences

    About

    The Professional Molecular Sciences Graduate Certificate is an interdisciplinary certificate that combines graduate courses in molecular biosciences with professional courses. This certificate encourages students with an undergraduate degree in the sciences to expand their training into non-science areas, so that they will be well versed in a broad set of transferable skills including business, management and communication; skills that many employers are seeking in future employees.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Students wishing to pursue a Graduate Certificate in Professional Molecular Sciences should have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in biology, biochemistry, cell biology, chemistry, genetics, microbiology or a related field. The Graduate School requires a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA in grades undergraduate work.  Applicants with an undergraduate GPA below 3.0 and have significant work experiences in a relevant scientific field may be considered for admission.

    Applicants must submit the Graduate School Application for a Graduate Certificate, including a statement of purpose (300 words max) addressing the following questions;

    • What is your motivation for earning the graduate certificate?
    • What is your assessment of your ability to succeed in graduate courses?

    Official transcripts of all previous undergraduate and graduate level coursework will also be required. International students who have not earned a previous degree from a US institution within the last two years must also submit TOEFL scores.

    Career

    Employers are increasingly looking for multidisciplinary training in future employees, especially employers who are involved in Biotechnology start-ups, where revenue is initially limited.  These individuals are looking for employees who have a “T” shaped training – depth of training in science, but with additional training in non science skills (management and/or business), such that employees can cover disparate areas of need.
