    About

    Learn to meet the special and inclusive support needs of children and young people.

    This program will prepare you to successfully meet the needs of children and young people with disability and/or additional need in education settings.

    Study anytime, anywhere with our flexible learning options to study at a time and pace that works for you. This course is a pathway to the Master of Special and Inclusive Education.

    Learn to create supportive learning environments, and enhance your expertise in disability and additional needs through examination of current research, reflection on practice, and collaboration with experienced professionals in the field. Whether you are in education or allied health, this program will enhance your work in teaching and learning, support, curriculum and pedagogy, and working with families.

    what you will study

    Choose four courses, from a selection of eight, that will support your skill development across a range of disability support areas. These include:

    • Policy, administration and collaboration in special and inclusive education,
    • Challenging behaviour and positive support,
    • Educating students with developmental diversity,
    • Critical reflections in special and inclusive education settings.
    • Education of Students with Learning Difficulties
    • Introduction to Challenging Behaviour and Positive SupportEDUC6088 Teaching Methods and Techniques in Special and Inclusive Education
    • Supporting Communication Skills
    • Critical Reflections in Special and Inclusive Education Settings
    • Research in Inclusive Education.

    The Graduate Certificate in Special and Inclusive Support is a pathway to the Master of Special and Inclusive Education with a specialisation in General Special Education.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Entry into the Graduate Certificate in Special and Inclusive Support (40 units) will be available for applicants who have:

    • 4 year Bachelors Degree; or
    • 3 year Bachelors Degree; or
    • Advanced Diploma or Diploma in a related field/discipline and 2 years relevant work experience; or
    • Advanced Diploma or Diploma not in a related field/discipline and 3 years relevant work experience; or
    • At least 5 years relevant work experience in a related field/discipline.

    Related fields/discipline areas are:

    • Teaching, Early Childhood educator
    • Occupational therapy, Speech therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Social work
    • Mental health care worker, Disability support worker, Community care worker, Art and Music therapy

    English Program Requirements

    Overall minimum: 6.5

    Sub test minimum: 6

    Upon completion, qualified educators will be equipped with skills and knowledge to assess student need, ability, and address identified learning difficulties or challenge-specific areas. Career pathways include inclusive and specialist education settings, behaviour and emotional support services, or early childhood intervention services.

    For graduates with a prior degree in an allied health related field – you can be part of a brighter future in community or disability support services.

    Please note the program does not provide a pre-service teaching qualification.

    Education Administration, Leadership and Teaching roles (for professional accredited educators) include:

  • Special and inclusive education teachers
  • School-based executive positions – i.e. Assistant Principal Special Education, Deputy Principal Inclusion and Support.
  • Non teaching roles include:

  • Educational administrator
  • Disability support worker.
  • Career pathways for those with an allied health degree include:

  • Special care worker
  • Therapeutic support staff.
