Casual teach while you complete your Masters.
This niche program offers a pathway into the Master of Teaching (Secondary) program for those who want to try teaching before committing to a full qualification. If you decide teaching is for you, at the completion of this Graduate Diploma you would transfer to the Master of Teaching (Secondary), and you can start working as a casual teacher while you complete the final 30 units of your masters degree.
Like the Master, the Graduate Diploma is taught online, supported by state-of-the-art simulation facilities, on-campus intensives and formal placements.
what you will study
The program is delivered online, with an on-campus experience at our Callaghan campus for three days during the year of study. The on-campus intensive provides opportunities to learn how to teach your specific selected teaching area from expert mentors.
The courses and placements will develop your knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed for a successful career in teaching. For more information about this program, view our Postgraduate Teaching (Secondary) admissions booklet.
In the core courses, you will examine concepts and theories in the following learning areas:
- Educational Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology
- The Principles and Practice of Teaching
- The Integration of New Technologies into Curriculum
The Graduate Diploma is designed ideally for applicants who only want to qualify in a single teaching area (although two teaching areas from the same discipline may be possible in some cases). If you want to qualify in two (or possibly three) teaching areas, you should enrol in our Master of Teaching (Secondary).
